Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
