The controversial, United States and Israel-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it is concluding its humanitarian work in the Gaza region, subsequent to approximately 180 days.

The foundation had already suspended its three food distribution sites in Gaza subsequent to the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into force in recent weeks.

Foundation History

The foundation started work in Gaza on 26 May, a week after Israel had partially eased a comprehensive closure on humanitarian and trade shipments to Gaza that lasted 11 weeks and resulted in critical deficits of necessary provisions.

The foundation's nourishment distribution centers in the southern and middle regions of Gaza were operated by US private security contractors and situated within Israeli military zones.

Relief Agency Issues

The UN and its partners claimed the methodology breached the core assistance standards of neutrality, impartiality and independence, and that directing needy individuals into militarised zones was fundamentally dangerous.

United Nations human rights division reported it tracked the fatalities of no fewer than 859 Gazans seeking food in the vicinity of GHF sites between late May through end of July.

An additional 514 individuals were lost their lives close to the courses followed by international humanitarian deliveries, it also mentioned.

The majority of these individuals were killed by the Israel's armed forces, according to the office.

Contrasting Reports

Israel's armed services said its troops had fired warning shots at individuals who came near them in a "intimidating" manner.

UN spokesperson the UN spokesman said on Monday that the GHF's shutdown would have "no influence" on its operations "as we never partnered with them".

He also said that while additional assistance was reaching the Palestinian territory since the truce was implemented on early October, it was "inadequate to satisfy all requirements" of the over two million inhabitants.
