Jurgen Klopp says a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I will never coach any other side in England. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
