Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
