Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with results like these.”

Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
