The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.
But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
