The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
