Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental collision with team-mate Jones.

Jones landed on the foot of the big man, who instantly collapsed to the court holding his leg.

The 30-year-old, that tops the league this season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game prior to incurring the setback.

The player will have an MRI on the following day to evaluate the severity of the issue.

"Instantly, he knew there was a problem," said Nuggets coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who gets hurt, it's difficult, especially a player as special as him. We will know more tomorrow."

"The team will adjust together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more concerned primarily about Jokic personally and the letdown of facing something like that."
